The fourth edition of a brand-new concept is here! The magazine 'The Guy with the Hook' (TGWTH) is something I have been working on for a long time. The idea behind the magazine is to present a very large, new crochet pattern created by me. In addition to this pattern, you will also find fun articles, personal stories, photos and illustrations, colorful designs, and of course... interesting facts. It has to offer more than just a static crochet pattern.

For this fourth edition, I chose Vikings, and the theme is therefore: Valhalla!

Valhalla features a mandala pattern full of motifs that you will recognize from Viking cultures. The V-shaped roofs, floral motifs, and runes are all incorporated into this intriguing design with a diameter of no less than 100 cm. Naturally, the magazine offers this complete pattern with text and step-by-step photos, but you will also find various background articles, information, photos, and a personal note. All in all, another issue to add to your magazine collection so far. Some general information about the pattern:

Yarns required: This pattern is made with gradient yarn. For this, I used Scheepjes Whirl, which is available in balls of 215-225 grams with a length of 1000 meters. For my example, I used Whirl 794 Earl Grey custard and 761 Pistachio oh so nice.

It does not matter what type of yarn you choose for this pattern. You will need approximately 950 meters. It also depends on whether the project is crocheted in a ring – for this, you will need an additional 50 meters.

Crochet hook required: I recommend a 3.0mm crochet hook for the Whirl version.

Size: The diameter of the Whirl version will be 100 cm. Using a ring is optional. If you wish to use one, take the above diameters as a starting point. However, it is wise to crochet the project first and then determine the size of the ring. No diagrams or videos are available for this pattern.

To avoid adding even more text to this pattern, you should always assume that you are working stitches into stitches – unless described otherwise. Skip all l-rmts from previous Rounds.

Although the pattern is not particularly difficult in terms of stitches, knowledge of written patterns is a requirement. A photo showing what a Round should look like after crocheting is included with every Round.

The pattern is designed with the correct tension ratio. For this reason, the pattern should turn out flat upon completion. During Rounds in the pattern, it may sometimes bulge a little – this will straighten out on its own in subsequent rounds.
