TGWTH magazine no.2 - Secret Garden

The second edition of a brand-new concept is here. The Guy with the Hook's (TGWTH) magazine is something I have worked on for a long time. The idea for the magazine is to display a very big, new crochet pattern from my hand. Besides this crochet pattern, there are also some fun articles to read, personal words, photos and illustrations, colorful designs, and, of course...some interesting facts. It has to offer more than a static crochet pattern. 

For this second edition, I have chosen nature as inspiration!

For a long time, a pattern idea in my mind involved lots of color, blossoms, and flowers. It would have to feel like walking through a garden and exploring all kinds of exotic and beautiful plants – with the most beautiful flowers. I’ll start with just a straightforward flower, and from there, the pattern evolved naturally, growing and rambling through new parts of the garden, showing different colors and plants. I have created small parts throughout the design, making working on this piece fun. It will let you explore the garden and know what you are crocheting. Enjoy this lovely walk on a sunny day through the secret garden I created!

General information about the pattern:

Yarn Requirements: I used Scheepjes Cotton 8 for this pattern, which comes in balls of 50 grams with a length of 170 meters/ 186 yards. The yarn is made of 100% cotton. I used a lot of colors for the pattern. You can find all the amounts here; some colors are used more than others, and feel free to combine or create different combinations.

Color A:  502 white – 35 grams needed (119 meters/130 yards]
Color B:  718 light pink – 30 grams needed (102 meters/ 112 yards)
Color C:  722 gold – 10 grams needed (34 meters/ 37 yards)
Color D:  719 pink – 25 grams needed (85 meters/ 93 yards)
Color E:  642 limegreen – 18 grams needed (62 meters/ 68 yards)
Color F:  723 turqoise - 18 grams needed (62 meters/ 68 yards)
Color G:  665 light blue – 18 grams needed (62 meters/ 68 yards)
Color H:  669 kiwi green - 30 grams needed (102 meters/ 112 yards)
Color  I:  726 dark purple – 28 grams needed (96 meters/ 105 yards)
Color J:  529 light purple – 28 grams needed (96 meters/ 105 yards)
Color K:  527 dark blue – 80 grams needed (272 meters/ 297 yards)
Color L:  714 egg yellow – 25 grams needed (85 meters/ 93 yards)

Crochet hooks needed: This pattern requires a 3.0mm and 4.0mm hook. The Stonewashed version requires a 3.5mm and 4.5mm hook.

Size: The diameter of the finished project will be 90 cm / 36 inches. The final outcome of the Stonewashed version was 90cm/ 36 inches in diameter.

Each Part of this pattern contains basic crochet stitches, written instructions, and many photos to guide you.
